The problem

Dirty panels produce up to 30% less.

Solar panels are not self-cleaning surfaces. Dust, pollen, bird droppings and industrial dirt form a layer that blocks light absorption. Rain washes away loose dust at best — the stubborn film remains, hardens and eventually damages the coating.

Our method

Cleaning done right: precise, eco-friendly and contact-free.

No ladders, no brushes on your glass, no aggressive agents.
Only demineralised water, precisely dosed from the air.

100% osmosis water
We spray exclusively with demineralised water. No chemicals, no streaks, safe for your panel coating and the environment.
Professional cleaning system
A precise operation, combined with adjusted water pressure, removes even baked-on dirt without mechanical damage.
No roof access
The drone operates from the air. No footsteps, no scratches, no risk of micro-cracks in the panels or roofing.
Before and after inspection
Every job starts and ends with an aerial image, so you see exactly what was addressed and what the result is.

Cleaning calendar

When is the best time to plan a cleaning?

Soiling follows the seasons. Our recommendation per period — with the reason behind it.

01
March – May
Spring
Pollen, blossom and Saharan dust form a stubborn film that immediately reduces yield.
02
June – August
Summer
Peak production. Dirt costs the most here: every percentage of loss counts double.
03
September – November
Autumn
Leaves, sap and bird activity. Ideal period for a thorough end-of-year clean.
04
December – February
Winter
On request, between frost periods. Soot and limescale build-up are most visible then.

In practice

Agricultural business, East Flanders — 480 panels.

Two years without cleaning, panels covered with dust, pollen and manure residue. Traditional cleaning was difficult due to the roof pitch and the aluminium profile. Our drone carried out the full cleaning in a single working day, without stepping on the roof.

Frequently asked questions

What you often want to know before a cleaning.

How often should my solar panels be cleaned?

For most installations in Belgium, one thorough cleaning per year is sufficient. Located near agriculture, industry, motorways or trees? Then we recommend two cleanings per year.

What is the difference with regular tap water?

Tap water contains limescale and minerals that leave stains and effectively undo the cleaning. We work exclusively with osmosis water that dries completely streak-free.

Can the drone cause damage?

No. Our system works without mechanical contact with the panel. Pressure and flow rate are tailored to solar panel glass and anti-reflective coating.

Do I need to be present during the cleaning?

Not necessarily. After a short briefing, site access and any required power supply, we can work independently.

Does this also work in rain or wind?

Light cloud cover is even favourable. In rain, storms or wind gusts above 10 m/s we postpone — safety comes first.

Is the cleaning insured?

Yes. DROPS Belgium is fully insured for material damage, injury and liability during every flight.
